Holy Way: – Old Way
Prior to the construction of the Shrine Board before 30 August 1949 it was very difficult to reach the temple. At that time there was no paved road in the way of the temple and had to go through big stones to the Vaishno court. Since the formation of the Shrine Board, the roads were widened and paved roads were constructed, the railings were arranged, the large aisles were cut and made accessible to the devotees.
Earlier all the people either used the stairs or it was not easy to walk because of the horses. Now people can walk comfortably on this road and complete their yatra.
In the first journey, devotees did not have a drinkable water system, people used to drink water from the waterfalls. Now 120 water tanks have been installed by the Shrine Board for drinking water throughout the road and cold pani water coolers have been installed at 20 places.
Earlier there was not a single light illumination on the entire track, now light has been provided for the devotees on the entire track. Very good work has been done.
In view of the increasing number of pilgrims so that all pilgrims are not disturbed, a new route was constructed. A smooth road was constructed to avoid steep slopes and crowded roads in Hathimata. Which is simple and easy and the road is not crowded and neither there is any slope nor much climbing, so a new way was constructed.
The alternate route has been built along the cave with half-quarry, so that the passengers do not have trouble on this road, so the pilgrimage is so easy that the pilgrims can complete their journey comfortably. In view of the needs of pilgrims on the way, everything has been praised.
On this road, eateries constructed by CCD’s Coffee Tea and Shrine Board have been made and many water water coolers have been installed in the place which pilgrims should not face any problem.
Ban Ganga is made up of two words, Ban and Ganga is said to be the mother who built Ganga ji from Ban, which comes from the Vaishno Darbar holy cave. Some even say that Mata Vaishnavi washed her hair at this place, so it is also called Bal Ganga.

There are many Puranic stories about Ganga. Ganga ji flows in Banganga in every season. It is said that before going to the Vaishno Durbar holy cave, pilgrims should take a bath and many pilgrims who come with full devotion, take a bath at this place and proceed for the journey. |The Bhairon Temple remained ignored prior to take over of the holy Shrine by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in the year 1986. The track leading to the temple was Kacha and in a dilapidated condition, making the climb a gruelling task. After the take over, emphasis was laid on developments in this area, particularly the widening and beautification of the track, remodelling of steps, construction of rain shelters, toilets etc.|
The whole track has now been illuminated with High Pressure Sodium Vapour Lamps. Water supply has been augmented and toilet blocks have been constructed for the convenience of the pilgrims. For providing adequate and reasonably priced beverages and packed food items such as biscuits and snacks, a refreshment unit named OM has been started. The Temple area has been beautified by fixing marble tiles and slabs along the pre-ambulation of the temple. All these efforts have made the visit of the pilgrims to Bhairon temple much more convenient and memorable.
It is believed that after leaving the Garbh Joon cave at Adhkawari, where Bhairon Nath had located her, Vaishnavi started ascending uphill till the time She reached the Holy Cave. Bhairon Nath who was pursuing Her, located her again inside the cave and started challenging her. So, finally the Goddess assumed Her Divine Form and severed the head of Bhairon Nath. There was so much power behind the blow of Her sword, that Bhairon Nath’s head flew away and fell on another spur of the mountain about One & a half Kilometer away, (the site of modern day Bhairon Temple) while his torso was left lying at the Mouth of the Holy Cave. The Goddess then immersed Herself into deep meditation inside the Sanctum Sanctorum where lies Her manifestation in the petrified foR
